If I would have let them keep the car I would have gotten 10k. Your $7,200 sounds in the ball park since 4 years have gone by. Even if they deduct another ~$1,000 if you keep it, you should have more than enough to replace the motor and have some left over. Replace the engine with a rebuilt one not a "new" one. My rebuilt engine cost $2,500 and about $1,000 to remove/replace, plus it only had 60k on it so I gained 58k less miles then my old engine had on it. A new engine will be over $6,000 plus R/R which is why your insurance company is listing it as a total loss.Call Kyle at Import Parts Pro and get a quote for a rebuild and call around some local engine places (yellowpages) and see what they would charge for a rebuilt engine.
